03.11.2022 Weekly Highlights + Nihao Recipe

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

This week we continue to focus on healthy food. Children are asked to identify the colors of the food, and work on projects that help them develop social and fine motor skills. They also learned to "cook" Chinese hot pot by throwing in pretend food in the mix. When the food is fully cooked, each child is to spoon-feed their doll-friend from a bowl. We also made food out of air clay and play dough, and practice handwriting on sandpapers. We hope this weekend everybody will enjoy healthy food with family!

Nihao Recipe

Broccoli Pork in Pesto In light of the healthy food topic, Nihao students are trying a new lunch recipe with pesto as the new ingredient. Some children are trying pesto for the firs time while others are familiar with the taste. Below is our instruction for parents to try it at home! Ingredients:

  • Ground Pork

  • Broccoli

  • Chicken Stock

  • Pesto Spice Blend

  • Whole Milk

  • Olive Oil

Direction:

  • Heat up the sauce pan on medium heat with 2 TBS olive oil and stir fry the ground pork until it turns light brown.

  • Add chicken stock in another soup pot and bring it to boil, stir a cup of milk into it.

  • Turn the heat to medium-low, add broccoli and let it simmer until broccoli is soft.

  • Add ground pork to pot, continue to simmer on medium-low.

  • Sprinkle pesto spice and mix well.

  • Serve over a bed of rice or pasta noodles.
