Telling Time & the Calabash Boys

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

Mandarin teacher Aaron reviewed the topic "telling time" in his class. Students went over:

  • 年 year

  • 月 month

  • 日 day

Then he taught them how to tell time in Chinese with-

  • 点 hour,

  • 分 minute,

  • 一刻 quarter

  • 半 half an hour

For better understanding, Aaron divided the students into three learning groups. The older students helped their fellow classmates with the new vocabulary words.

Flying Dragon

Rachel, one of the students in Hatch Elementary, is showing her project of flying Dragon. Students all made the flying dragon craft as our way of celebrating Chinese New Year. After watching the movie “Calabash Boy”(葫芦娃), students enjoyed some coloring time to help them tell the story of the "Calabash Boy". Aaron also taught the class to sing the song of the Calabash Boy, which was really popular among Chinese children.
